7 Great Jobs that Require No Education
October 5, 2021 | Career Blog
Are you ready for a new career but worried that a lack of education will slow you down? Even if all you have is a high school diploma (or the equivalent), there are still many great career options available for you.
While some of these positions can benefit from secondary education or licensing, check out the following jobs that require no education to get started. Find the right fit for you and start applying!
Postal Service Clerk
While you will need to pass a reading speed and accuracy test, postal service clerks can get on-the-job training with a high school diploma or equivalent.
Postal service clerks sort letters and packages, sell postage stamps, and assist customers with other needs. It helps to be organized if you want to succeed in this career.
Bartender
Perhaps the ultimate job for night owls with great people skills, bartenders are not required to have a degree to begin working. However, many bartenders go on to get certifications in mixology to help expand their career options.
Bartenders are responsible for taking drink orders, mixing drinks, keeping bar tabs organized, keeping the bar and glassware clean, and ringing up customers’ tabs. Bartenders can make a lot of money from tips, so great social skills are a must!
Flight Attendant
Interested in traveling the country or even the world? Flight attendants are responsible for two main concerns on an aircraft: safety and comfort.
While often thought of as simply handing out snacks and drinks, flight attendants are also the first line of defense for any situation that may occur in the air. From calming anxious passengers during turbulence to ensuring that emergency procedures are followed, flight attendants make sure everyone gets where they need to go safely.
Railroad Conductor
While some employers may require additional industry certifications, you can often get started with a career as a railroad conductor with just a diploma.
Railroad conductors need to communicate with other members of the crew, including engineers, traffic controllers, and others. They are responsible for keeping their trains on schedule, maintaining shipping records, and making sure the trains have even weight distribution. Detail-oriented people will have an easier time succeeding in this career.
Bus Driver
A great profession for a “people person,” bus drivers need only a high school diploma or GED and a clean driving record. They are responsible for not only driving the bus but also collecting fares and keeping a tight schedule during ever-changing conditions.
Since bus drivers are always dealing with traffic concerns and customer service at the same time, keeping an even temper is critical. If you’re the type of person who yells during rush hour, it’s probably best to look elsewhere.
Personal Care Aide
If you’re a patient and compassionate person, this might be the job for you. Personal Care Aides help patients with mental and physical disabilities get through their day by preparing meals, helping them get dressed, and helping out with other daily tasks.
Unlike a Home Health Aide, you won’t be performing any medical-related tasks. You will need to be flexible about your work environment, as Personal Care Aides can work anywhere from private homes to large care facilities.
Pharmacy Technician
Pharmacy technicians typically learn through on-the-job training. They assist pharmacists in dispensing medications to the public or to healthcare professionals in hospitals or clinics.
While you’ll want at least an associate’s degree to advance your career, the entry-level for pharmacy technicians doesn’t require anything more than a high school diploma or GED.
